The Phlebotomy course will cover the basic and didactic advance materials needed to prepare students for the National Phlebotomy certification exam. Health care settings, Medical Law and Ethics, Preanalytical Errors, Medical Terminology, Specimen handling and processing.Instruction is derived from the textbook, Phlebotomy Essentials (6th Edition) – McCall/Tankersley, as well as handout materials, lecture, and state of the art audio visual aids.Instruction in blood borne pathogen control.Contemporary sterilization procedures and protocol. ![]() Introduction to the Safety Needle Act mandated by OSHA.Introduction and demonstration of the following: evacuated collection system, syringe, butterfly, and capillary punctures.Basic venous anatomy, anatomy and physiology, the circulatory system, and video observation of arterial punctures.The Basic and Advance course will include the following objectives: Fees incurred by immunization, health exams, uniforms, CDPH State of California Certification, and basic class supplies are the sole responsibility of the student. Students who wish to work as a Phlebotomist in the State of California will need to pay for and pass the NCCT certification examination, and apply for licensure by the California Department of Public Health. ![]() Our graduates will receive a Certificate of Course Completion and be eligible to test for certification by the National Center for Competency testing (NCCT). The training program includes a minimum of 80 hours of didactic instruction and skills laboratory and 40 hours (up to 80 hours) of supervised externship experience. Project Heartbeat’s Phlebotomy Technician Certificate Program trains students in the workings of the hospital laboratory, how to interact with patients, and acquire and process blood samples.
